A bottle that captured our hearts
It was a bold spray painted bottle that caught our eye initially. On the
back was a simple piece of paper with a few details about the mezcal and
a tag, Rosita Relampago.
The bottle and a clue
During many long car rides to off-the-beaten-path palenques, we discussed what kind of artwork we would put on the label of our bottle. Finally someone said, “Why don’t we just track down the artist of the original bottle?”
The problem is that we had purchased that bottle in a pop-up market during Dia de los Muertos in 2019. We didn’t remember where it was or know whether the market existed anymore (turns out, it didn’t); and it was now 2020 during the height of the pandemic. All we had was the bottle, and a clue…
A very special Valentine's Day
Our partner spent several weeks going door to door in Oaxaca Centro asking if anyone recognized the bottle or knew the artist. Finally as fate would have it, on Valentine’s Day 2021, he found the artist who painted the crazy hearts and we met Andrea aka Rosita.
Rosita designs and paints each bottle for Agua de Cora. The colors of the hearts represent the tasting notes you’ll find in the bottle, and the faces are her own interpretation of each of the mezcals. Check out her process below.
Every bottle is sprayed-painted, screen-printed, and finished by hand. No two are perfectly alike, and that's just how we like it.
Our commitment to sustainability
Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us; it’s the whole premise of our bottle design. The bottle is made in Mexico from recycled glass and the label is made from upcycled agave fiber. Our corks are made of natural, not synthetic cork.
While a sticker with Rosita’s art would’ve been cool, we wanted the bottle itself to be a work of art you could keep and reuse, rather than throw away. Display it on your bar cart or mantle as a reminder of all the fun you shared while drinking the mezcal. Use the bottle as a vase or water jug. We hope you’ll keep it long after the liquid is gone.
