Passion for the spirit

It all began with a trip to Oaxaca. Here we tasted real mezcal;
mezcal with complexity, flavors and textures we had never
experienced before. We were just three friends who fell in love with
this special spirit, the art that pulses through the veins of this city
and the people who dedicate their life to their craft.

“What started as a passion to learn more about mezcal, grew into a crazy idea to bring these small-batch, unique mezcals to our communities back home. We always said, "If people think they like mezcal, just wait until they try this.”

We have learned a lot about the business of mezcal and the pressures producers are facing due to increasing demand for agaves. Small producers get priced out for plants or face regulations on the word “mezcal”, a word they’ve been using to describe what they make for generations.

For us, this project was always about honoring the old way of doing things, and supporting those who do. As we meet producers we ask: “What are the challenges you or your community are facing, and how can we help?”

For many producers, they need cash to buy agaves or seedlings to grow on their land. Some have asked us to help build infrastructure in their communities. We’re proud to be working with S.A.C.R.E.D. to develop these initiatives and directly support the mezcaleros and their communities. For every bottle of Agua de Cora sold, we donate $5 to purchase seedlings from a Oaxacan school, and
distribute them to mezcaleros who will replant the seedlings on their
land. You can learn more about our replanting efforts here.

We’re proud to bring you a wide range of fantastic spirits; demonstrating the diversity of flavors and styles you can experience with agave spirits. We hope you’ll fall in love as we did.

With Love,
Mateo, Arielle, Doug
