Fine mezcal is sipped in Oaxaca. Our spirits are still-proof, meaning they weren’t standardized to a lower ABV - a common practice for spirits intended for the U.S. and European market, or those designed for cocktails. The ABV it was when it came out of the still is what you’re getting in the bottle. To soften the intensity, we’ve rested all of our spirits in glass for a minimum of six months before shipping it to you. That’s why you may be surprised to see an ABV of 50%, but find it very drinkable!

Do’s:

  • Choose the right glass: a whisky nosing glass will allow you to savor the aroma. Short, wide shot glasses work too.
  • Roll it around in the glass to coat the surface and release the liquid.
  • Smell: Play with bringing your nose closer and further away from the glass - don't rush. 70% of your sense of taste relies on your nose!
  • Bring a little to your lips and allow it to flow across the tongue and the whole mouth. Breathe, allowing the olfactory glands and taste buds to work together.
  • Sip it neat: the richness of the flavors and the notes that open up over time can really be discovered when the mezcal stands on its own.
  • Serve it at room temperature: this is how it is sipped in Oaxaca and is the intended temperature for enjoying.
  • Add a single ice cube: Our mezcals are still-proof, meaning the alcohol content is higher than most spirits sold in the U.S. Despite this, you will find them surprisingly smooth, but if the flavor is too strong, you may add a single ice cube to dilute it.

Don’ts:

  • Refrigerate or put in the freezer: The texture will become syrupy and undesirable, the flavors will become muted.
  • Add juice or mixers: The complexity and richness of these special spirits will be lost in cocktails! Use a basic Espadin for this and save Agua de Cora spirits for sipping.
  • Take it too seriously: mezcal making is a serious business, but mezcal drinking is like making love. Live in the moment, savor the flavors and enjoy it with your favorite people.
